尊敬的英国约克公爵安德鲁王子殿下，
尊敬的哈德斯菲尔德大学校长克莱恩先生，
老师们、同学们、朋友们：
很荣幸接受哈德斯菲尔德大学授予的荣誉博士学位。哈德斯菲尔德大学是全英教育质量最佳大学之一。有幸成为你们的校友，对于我本人、中国驻英国大使馆乃至中英教育合作而言，都是一份珍贵的肯定和期许。我谨向校监安德鲁王子殿下和克莱恩校长表示衷心感谢！
It is with great honour that I receive theHonorary Doctorate from the University of Huddersfield.
The University of Huddersfield is one ofUK’s best universities in quality of teaching. Becoming your alumnus is notonly a special recognition and expectation for myself. It is also a recognitionand expectation for the Chinese Embassy in the UK and for China-UK educationcooperation. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to HRH The Duke ofYork and to Vice-Chancellor Cryan!
哈德斯菲尔德对许多中国人来说不是一个很熟悉的名字，但我要告诉他们，这是第一所在中国捐助希望小学的外国大学，这是一所已与中国100多所大学建立了校际合作关系的大学，这是一所与中国几十家教育、文化、媒体机构开展多种形式的合作的大学。
To many Chinese people, the University ofHuddersfield may not be a familiar name. But I will tell my fellow Chinesethat:
This is the first foreign university thathas donated to a Hope Primary School in China.
It has established partnership with morethan 100 Chinese universities.
And it has engaged in various forms ofcooperation with dozens of Chinese educational, cultural and media institutions.
可以说，哈德斯菲尔德大学与中国已经结下不解之缘。我期待并相信，哈德斯菲尔德大学在未来中英教育交流合作中将发挥重要作用。
It is fair to say that the University ofHuddersfield has a close bond with China. I hope and believe that theUniversity of Huddersfield will continue to play an important role in China-UKeducation exchanges and cooperation in the future.
谈到中英教育合作的未来，我想用哈德斯菲尔德大学的字首“H”来表达我的三点期望：
Talking about the future, I would like touse the letter H for Huddersfield to share with you my three hopes for China-UKeducation cooperation.
一是勤奋耕耘（Hardwork）。优秀的教育，既要培养高尚的品德，又要培育真才实学。希望我们用好“英国未来计划”、“汉语培优项目”、“中英数学教师交流项目”等机制，尤其要用好今天签约创建的哈德斯菲尔德科技创新孔子学院等平台，培养真才实学、踏实肯干的人才。
The first H is hard work.
High-quality education should aim to fostertalents that are both virtuous and competent. And this requires hard work.
There are many mechanisms that can beleveraged in achieving this goal. These include Generation UK, MandarinExcellence Programme and the China-UK Mathematic Teacher Exchange Programme. Ina latest addition to these platforms, we signed a document earlier today tolaunch the Confucius Institute of Science and Technology Innovation at theUniversity of Huddersfield. These mechanisms will help us foster competent andhard-working talents.
二是开阔视野（Horizon）。大学可以有围墙，但观念、思维、人才、知识不设墙。希望我们以更宽的胸襟、更广的视野，跨越文化差异的鸿沟，打破意识形态的藩篱，以交流代替歧视，以兼容代替排斥，以对话代替对抗，以共处代替冲突。正如刚刚宣布的那样，今年中国政府将给予哈德斯菲尔德大学20个短期赴华留学奖学金名额，希望获得这份资助的同学们在实践中开阔视野，做增进中英理解互信的桥梁。
The second H is horizon.
Universities may have walls, but they arenot barricaded against ideas, thoughts, talents or knowledge. I think this isan age that calls for broader horizon and broader minds. This is a time tobridge the gap between cultures and break the fence between ideologies. This isan era for exchanges not discrimination, an era for inclusion not exclusion, anera for dialogue not confrontation, and an era for coexistence not conflict.
As was just announced, the ChineseGovernment would offer scholarships to 20 students from the University ofHuddersfield for short-term study in China. It is my hope that the recipientscould take advantage of this experience to broaden their horizon and become abridge of better understanding and mutual trust between our two countries.
三是砥砺前行（Headway）。当今世界正处于百年未有之大变局。在国际变局中，世界各国应旗帜鲜明地反对保护主义和单边主义，携手努力、共同担当，同舟共济、共渡难关，共同构建人类命运共同体。
The third H is headway.
The world is undergoing profound changesunseen in a century. To make headway amid such changes, all countries of theworld should stand up against protectionism and unilateralism. As long as wejoin hands, shoulder our due responsibilities and have each other’s back indifficulties, we will be able to build a community with a shared future formankind.
哈德斯菲尔德大学的校训是“激励全球专业人士”（Inspiring Global Professionals），相信我期望的这三个“H”也能激励你们为中英友好合作添砖加瓦，为两国人文交流与合作做出新的更大贡献！谢谢！
The motto of the University of Huddersfieldis “Inspiring Global Professionals”. I hope what I have said about three “H’s”would inspire you to make new and greater contribution to China-UK cooperationin education and people-to-people exchanges!
