在我小时候，一部取材于广西民间传说的音乐电影《刘三姐》风靡全国，电影里悠扬婉转的民歌、秀丽无比的风景我至今记忆犹新。后来，我有幸前往广西桂林旅游，真切体会到“舟行碧波上，人在画中游”的意境，令人流连忘返。今天，能够在马耳他参加“美丽中国，壮美广西”活动，我感到十分亲切。在此，我愿与大家分享我心中的广西之美。

When I was a kid, there was a popular musical film in China about the legendary Guangxi folk singer Liu Sanjie, or Third Sister Liu. The beautiful folk songs and fascinating Guangxi landscapes in the film left a deep impression on me. Years later, I had the opportunity to visit Guilin, one of China's most popular tourist destinations located in Guangxi, where I was simply captivated by what was described in a famous poem as "boating along scenery that only existed in paintings". And today, being here brings back those wonderful memories. So let me take this opportunity to share with you my understanding of the beauty of Guangxi.

广西之美，在于其自然人文风光。广西山、海兼备，田园、山林、瀑布、沙滩……丰富多样的地貌诠释着山水之美和大海之阔。广西景美人更美，作为中国少数民族人口最多的自治区，广西各族人民形成了各具特色的民俗，创造了丰富多彩的文化。无论是民族歌舞、手工技艺，还是独特建筑、风味饮食，无一不在诉说着广西的人文风韵和文化积淀。

The beauty of Guangxi lies in its nature, its people and its culture. Guangxi is known for its geological diversity with mountains in its north and ocean to its south and pastoral fields, forests, waterfalls and beaches in between. Guangxi is an autonomous region with the largest population of minority ethnic groups in China. They vary from each other in cultural traditions and customs such as songs, dances, handicrafts, architectural techniques and local cuisines, which showcase the rich cultural heritage Guangxi possesses.

广西之美，在于其发展建设成就。广西壮族自治区成立60多年来，地区生产总值增长数百倍，贫困人口大幅减少，人民生活水平不断提高。就在上个月，广西上林县还被联合国老龄所积极老龄化专家委员会授予“世界长寿之乡”荣誉称号。此外，广西甘蔗、蚕茧等产量多年稳居全国首位，并已成为全国重要的汽车生产基地和铝产业基地，这些都体现了广西经济社会发展所取得的巨大成就。

The beauty of Guangxi lies in its development achievement. The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was established over 60 years ago. Over the past six decades, its GDP has grown by several hundredfold. Poverty has been significantly reduced and people's life quality has been hugely improved. Just last month, Shanglin County of Guangxi was awarded World Longevity Area by the International Institute on Ageing of the United Nations in Malta. On another note, Guangxi has topped the country for many years in terms of sugarcane and silkworm cocoon production. It is also an important production base for cars and aluminum products. All these are the remarkable economic and social progress Guangxi has achieved.

广西之美，还在于其开放联结枢纽的重要地位。广西高铁运营里程居全国前列，高速公路网辐射周边省份和东盟国家，已成为区域陆路交通枢纽。而源于其地理位置优势，广西早在2000多年前，就是中国最早的出海口之一，是海上丝绸之路的重要发祥地。今天，广西仍然是21世纪海上丝绸之路的重要起点和不可或缺的组成部分，将成为“一带一路”有机衔接的重要门户。

The beauty of Guangxi lies also in its importance as a transportation hub. The total mileage of high speed railway in Guangxi ranks among the top in China. And its expressways network connects it with neighboring provinces and even ASEAN countries. Thanks to its geographic advantage, as early as 2,000 years ago, Guangxi was already serving as one of China's oldest ports and places where the ancient maritime Silk Road originated. Today, Guangxi remains one of the important starting points and an indispensable part of the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, and will become an important gateway linking the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road.

各位朋友:今年是新中国成立70周年。70年来，中国共产党带领全国各族人民艰苦奋斗、开拓进取，成功走出一条中国特色社会主义道路，国家面貌发生翻天覆地变化，这其中也包括广西取得的巨大发展成就。我希望并相信，通过此次旅游文化周，马耳他朋友将会开始了解广西、爱上广西，并将广西作为他们下次出国旅游的目的地。期待马耳他与广西开展更密切的交往与合作，为两国共建“一带一路”，实现共同发展发挥积极作用。

Dear friends,
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Over the past 70 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party, the Chinese people have forged ahead, fearless and determined, and found a path of development suited to its own conditions. This is the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Huge changes have taken place all over the country, including Guangxi. I hope and believe that , after this exhibition, our Maltese friends will get to know and fall in love with Guangxi, and will choose Guangxi as their next destination for holidays. I look forward to seeing closer exchanges and cooperation between Malta and Guangxi, which constitutes an important part of our Belt and Road cooperation and common development.
