Pivot

(n.)

1. the central point, pin or column on which sth turns or balances

支点;枢轴;中心点

2. the central or most important person or thing

最重要的人(或事物);中心;核心

e.g. West Africa was the pivot of the cocoa trade.

西非是可可豆贸易的中心。

e.g. The pivot on which the old system turned had disappeared.

维系旧制度的支柱已经消失了。

e.g. China stands ready to work with South Africa and continue to regard China-South Africa relationship as a strategic pivot and priority in our two countries' foreign policies, enhance political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, and elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership between our two countries to a new level.
