Snowfalls in Shanghai
作者:admin  发表时间:2013-12-25

It is snowing! Around 11 a.m. this morning, a long-awaited snowfall came to Shanghai at last.

Dai Xinpu, chief forecaster with the Shanghai Meteorological Station explained, the weather condition this morning was a bit out of the normal as it was influenced by the cold level currents. The low in temperature did not occur in early morning, on the contrary, the temperature went increasingly lower as starting from 5.5 degrees Censius at 8 a.m. all the way to 3.3 degrees at noon when this report was filed, and it was continuously on the downward slide. The anticlimax temperature movement, the humidity in the air as a result of days of rainfall led to the sleet today.

Meteorological data indicate that the average snowy days in Shanghai are 6.2 between 1951 and 1990. Historically, the earliest snow comes on November 2 and the latest one on April 24. However, the snowfall in Shanghai remarkably decreased in the past decade due to the warm winters. It was even rarer when a big snowfall leads to an accumulation of snow.
