The West Lake National Park in Hangzhou is famous for the elegant natural landscape of West Lake and the neighboring hills, profound cultural relics and historic sites, and brilliant culture and arts. As the centerpiece of the national park, West Lake is cradled by hills on three sides. Covering an area of about 60 km², the national park boasts more than 100 tourist attractions with varied features and, in particular, the Ten Poetically Named Scenic Places of West Lake are the most enchanting. There are over 60 major historic monuments and sites, as well as museums and memorial halls of various types. 

 

    At the turn of the 21^st century, the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government of Hangzhou implemented the Comprehensive Conservation Project for West Lake. Thus, West Lake is taking on a new look with the panorama of “One Lake, Two Pagodas, Three Islands and Three Causeways”.

 

    Established on 5^th December 2004, Hangzhou West Lake National Park Volunteers Service is responsible for organizing volunteers from all walks of life in Hangzhou to participate in volunteer service programs in the national park or local communities. The programs usually focus on tourist service, eco-friendly projects, culture, people’s livelihood, and heritage preservation. In order to contribute to the publicity and preservation of West Lake, the volunteers promise to do their best in the service of society and spread volunteerism without aiming at seeking material remuneration.
