1. Cross that bridge when you come to it.

Explain: to worry about a problem when it actually happens and not before

临机应变(不用事前操心)

2. Cross your fingers

Explain: to hope that your plans will be successful (sometimes putting one finger across another as a sign of hoping for good luck)

祈求成功(有时使手指交叉为祈求好运的手势)

e.g. I'm crossing my fingers that my proposal will be accepted.

但愿我的建议被采纳。

e.g. Keep your fingers crossed.

3. Cross my heart (and hope to die) (informal)

Explain: used to emphasize that you are telling the truth or will do what you promise

我发誓(否则不得好死)

e.g. I saw him do it——cross my heart.

我看见是他干的,我可以发誓。

4. Cross your mind (of thoughts, etc.)

Explain: to come into your mind

掠过心头;出现在脑海里

e.g. It nver crossed my mind that she might lose (=I was sure that she whould win).

我从来没想过她会失败。

5. Cross sb's palm with silver

Explain: to give sb money so that they will do you a favour, especially tell your FORTUNE

为得到好处而给某人钱;(尤指)付钱请人算命

6. Cross sb's path / people's paths cross

Explain: if sb crosses sb's path or their paths cross, they meet by chance

偶然相遇;不期而遇;邂逅

e.g. I hope I never cross her path again.

但愿我永远不再碰见她。

e.g. Our paths were to cross again many years later.

许多年以后我们又不期而遇了。

7. Cross swords (with sb)

Explain: to fight or argue with sb

(与某人)交锋,争论

8. Cross sb/sth off / cross sb/sth off sth

Explain: to draw a line through a person's name or an an item on a list because they/it is no longer required or involved

(从名单或清单上)划掉;删掉(错字)

9. Cross over (to/into sth)

Explain: to move or change from one type of culture, music, political party, etc. to another

(从某种文化、音乐、政党等)转变,变换

e.g. a cult movie that has crossed over to mass appeal
