(of Buddhism) Marshals Heng and Ha: two fierce-looking divinities guarding a temple gate. In the novel Canonization of the Gods the two are portrayed as army provision escorts with divine power. Heng, the ‘Snorter', exhales white vapour from his nostrils while Ha, the 'Blower', blows yellow gas out of his mouth. Later they have become a metaphor for any pair of overbearing men who have the favour of a powerful master of act in collusion with each other.
