月下独酌

花间一壶酒，
独酌无相亲。
举杯邀明月，
对影成三人。
月既不解饮，
影徒随我身。
暂伴月将影，
行乐须及春。
我歌月徘徊，
我舞影零乱。
醒时同交欢，
醉后各分散。
永结无情游，
相期邈云汉。
Drinking Alone Underneath a Moon
Li Bai
I brought a jug of wine among flowers,
Drinking alone, without my pals by my side.
I raised my cup and invited the moon,
Plus my shadow, we made a nice trio.
But the moon did not really drink,
And my shadow kept to the brink.
Still I decided we should carry on,
For ’tis spring–the season for merry-making.
As I sang, the moon loitered in its track;
As I danced, my shadow went all aquiver.
While still sober, we merrily make merry;
When drunk, we go our separate ways.
We shall continue on and on like this.
One day, we’ll play in the Celestial Palace.
