啜菽，饮水，尽其欢，斯之为孝。——《礼记》
解释：菽，豆类的总称；菽水，豆和水，指最平凡的食品；欢，侍奉父母使其欢喜。用豆子和水来奉养父母，博取父母的欢心。后遂以“菽水之欢”指奉养父母，使父母欢乐。亦简称“菽水”等。
